Global Pact Coalition - Cambridge Launch Conference

We would like to cordially invite you to join us for the 'Launch of the Global Pact Coalition’ on 31st March 2021 (5pm UK time), co-hosted by the Global Pact Coalition and the Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG, University of Cambridge).

Since 2018, the Global Pact for the Environment project is under discussion in the United Nations. Some states oppose its adoption. But the good news is: there’s still a chance! Civil society can come together and demand that States recognize our right to live in a healthy environment.

In 2022, a declaration will be adopted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Stockholm Conference. In order for the declaration to live up to expectations, civil society needs to unite behind a single motto: ambition for the planet.

The Global Pact Coalition has been formed to rally all stakeholders behind the call to jointly push states to act and adopt a Global Pact for the Environment.

In the upcoming event, the speakers will address the following four questions: (1) What Is a Global Pact for the Environment? (2) Why do we need such a text? (3) How would this adoption have a concrete impact? (4) Where are negotiations heading to?

Speakers in the event include:

  • Yann Aguila, Director General of the Global Pact Coalition,
  • Ginevra le Moli, Professor at Leiden University,
  • Maria Antonia Tigre, Regional Director for Latin America at the Global Network for the Study of Human Rights and the Environment,
  • Jorge E. Viñuales, Harold Samuel Professor, University of Cambridge.

Everyone is welcome and can register here or via the link in the posterOnce registered, you will receive a Zoom link to join the discussion on the day of the event.
