Biography
Patrick Simon Perillo is a PhD researcher at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG) at the University of Cambridge. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Cambridge International Law Journal and was Co-Convenor of the 7th Annual Cambridge International Law Conference. He supervises undergraduate students in EU Environmental and Sustainable Development Law, as well as MPhil Environmental Policy and Master of Laws students in International Environmental Law. His PhD research focuses on corporate accountability in international and comparative law for human rights and environmental concerns. This project is funded by the Newton Scholarship and is under the supervision of Dr. Markus W. Gehring.
Patrick is a faculty member of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law (Ateneo Law School) in the Philippines. He is a member of the 'Political Law and International Law', as well as the 'Legal Research and Writing' Departments of Ateneo Law School, teaching a number of courses under these departments. He also served as the Linkages Associate of Ateneo Law School's Graduate Legal Studies Institute and the Programme Coordinator of the Master of Human Rights and Democratisation (MHRD), an EU-funded programme administered by Ateneo Law School in partnership with Sydney University, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Kathmandu Law School, Colombo Law School, and Mahidol University. Patrick also teaches Constitutional Law and International Law at De La Salle University Manila, also in the Philippines.
Patrick previously served at the Office of the President of the Philippines as counsel with the rank of Director IV. He was also a Court Attorney at the Supreme Court of the Philippines and before that, an Associate at Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose Law Firm. While in New York, he worked as Research Assistant and later, as Research Associate to Professor Lori F. Damrosch during her Presidency at the American Society of International Law. He also interned at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment and the UNDP Headquarters.
Patrick holds an LLM degree (with Distinction—Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar; Smith Scholar) from Columbia Law School, and is a recipient of the Parker School Certificate of Achievement in International and Comparative Law. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo Law School (Dean's Bronze Medal for Thesis) and a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from De La Salle University (cum laude). He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2009.
