C-EENRG

Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance

It is with great pleasure that C-EENRG announces that Professor Laura Diaz Anadon will be the new C-EENRG Director as of September 2020, an appointment unanimously approved at the Board of Land Economy meeting of the 8th of October 2020.

Outgoing C-EENRG Director, Professor Andreas Kontoleon, reflects on the occasion:

I have been Director of C-EENRG since 2017 and it is has been a pleasure to oversee the further development and growth of the research group which was initiated by Professor Jorge Vinuales in 2014. Over the past few years we have all worked to solidify C-EENRG as the main research hub within Cambridge for economic and legal environmental policy research. It has been particularly rewarding to see the career progression of a large number of young academics who have benefited from the activities of our centre. During the last three years our group has published articles in leading scientific journals (e.g. Nature, PNAS etc.) and has brought in significant research grants in excess of £2m. We have overseen the completion of over 10 PhD dissertations while our graduates have taken up impressive appointments in academic and policy institutions throughout the world. A significant ingredient to this success has been the development of regular group activities which have flourished due to the enthusiasm of our community of researchers and Fellows.

I would like to thank Dr Pablo Salas and Dr Emma Lees for their valuable contribution as Deputy Directors as well as our exceptional group of researchers who oversee all the administrative and logistical details for running and communicating our research activities.

Professor Anadon will bring a huge wealth of experience and expertise as new C-EENRG Director. I will remain serving on C-EENRG’s managing board and I look forward to supporting Professor Anadon’s efforts to further develop our group.

Founding Director of C-EENRG, Professor Jorge Vinuales, adds:

I am thrilled that Laura has accepted to lead C-EENRG in this new challenging but very exciting phase, and I look forward to seeing you all for a celebration as soon as conditions permit.

Incoming C-EENRG Director Professor Laura Diaz Anadon responds:

Thank you very much Andreas and Jorge for the kind words and for your vision, leadership and hard work in establishing and directing C-EENRG.

Thank you also to Pablo, Emma and everyone who contributes to the running of this interdisciplinary group of passionate and accomplished researchers.

I am really looking forward to building on all of this hard work and to forging new connections and interactions among us, across the university, and beyond.
