Vassilis Gkoumas, C-EENRG researcher and a PhD student in the Department of Land Economy, recently received the Frederick Soddy Postgraduate Award from the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) for his research on the social impacts of Marine Protected Areas.

The award is given to two or three PhD students annually and it comes with a grant for fieldwork expenses. Together with the funding from the FIDELIO Project (funded by the European Research Council), the grant will fund the fieldwork of Vassilis in five marine protected areas in South Europe (Greece, Italy, Spain, France), which will take place later this year.
