CEENRG Researcher and PhD Candidate in the Department of Land Economy, Jiashu Zhu, recently contributed to a panel discussion at the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) Annual Weather and Climate Conference. The panel, titled "Climate Change Adaptation - How can we support decision-making at the local scale?," brought together experts to explore critical questions surrounding local-level climate adaptation.
The discussion focused on the types of information decision-makers require to effectively adapt to climate change, the lessons learned from previous extreme weather events, and the potential of using seasonal to decadal information to inform adaptation strategies. Jiashu's contributions focused on the evaluation of adaptation policymaking. He highlighted the challenges of making robust decisions under deep uncertainty, the risks associated with maladaptation, and the importance of considering nature-based solutions. The event provided a platform for experts from various institutions, such as the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and the Met Office, to share insights and foster collaborative approaches to climate adaptation at the local level.
